Racing around the planet
For those of us who are looking out for an unusual holiday and who aren’t afraid of a bit of action, there are plenty of exciting races to be found around the planet today. The biggest of all is the London Marathon.
The father of all city races is the Boston Marathon. The newest race is the Reggae Marathon held for the first time in Jamaica in 2001. Competitors are helped along by the rhythm of reggae music. On of the most spectacular races is The Great Wall Marathon in China. Part of the race takes place on the Wall itself and participants have to climb more than 3,700 steps during the race. The toughest of all is probably the Moroccan Marathon des Sables which takes place over a week in the Sahara Desert. Competitors are required to carry all their food and equipment. So, if you’re interested in tough holiday break, there are a number of travel companies organising race package deals around the world.
