Famous Rallies
The Monte Carlo rally takes place every year in January. It starts and finishes in Monaco and is the first race of the season on the World Rally Circuit. The world's top drivers and car builders take part in the rally. It lasts three days and all the stages of the race are in the French Alps. Because it is wintertime, many of the roads are covered with ice and snow and the rally is very exciting and spectacular. Thousands of people line the roads to watch the cars go past.
The Dakar Rally is an annual international event with sections for cars, lorries and motorbikes. Every year the race takes place between Paris and Dakar, the capital of Senegal in West Africa. The race is very exciting and spectacular because the competitors have to cross the Sahara desert.
